The Children’s Medical Research Institute is a custom-built biomedical facility located at Westmead, in Sydney’s western suburbs. While the Institute was established in 1958, we have been in our current state-of-the-art building since 1992. The award-winning design was produced by a team of architects and scientists who worked together to design a practical, pleasant and modern working environment.
The Children’s Medical Research Institute is located at the Westmead campus with The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Westmead Hospital and Westmead Millennium Institute. Together, these organisations form the Westmead Research Hub – a cooperative research environment where equipment and scientific expertise can be shared for a superior, efficient and cost-effective approach to research. The CMRI has departmental status within the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Sydney and links with several other Australian and international universities.
The Institute is also home to a major Mass Spectrometry Facility which allows detailed analysis and identification of proteins. CMRI also hosts CellBank Australia – a repository of cell-lines, available for the research community.
